|Dear First Step Cable Internet Subscriber,
We are writing today to give you notice about a potential / pending shutdown of the Cable Internet services that you are currently subscribed to. As you may be aware, sometime ago, First Step Internet entered into an agreement with Elk River TV & Cable to provide you with Cable Internet Service. The underlying physical cable remained the property of Elk River TV & Cable.
Recently First Step Internet, LLC attempted to purchase the remaining cable asset from Elk River TV & Cable. That deal has fallen through as a result of an unknown ongoing dispute between Avista Utilities and Elk River TV & Cable. Elk River TV & Cable and Avista have not been able to come to an agreement concerning their dispute. First Step has been given notice by Avista that they intend at some point in the future to begin removing the cable infrastructure from service. Unfortunately, when they do so, the Cable Internet Service that you are currently receiving will stop working.
We do not have a definite time when this will happen nor will we likely be given any further notice. This could occur within the week or anytime thereafter.
First Step continues to work with Avista to seek some other remedy other than shutting down the service that First Step has no control over. We are hopeful that something may still come from that but thought it was appropriate at this point to let our customers know that there may be problems that we may not be able to overcome. We do not want to leave you without Internet service options.
For those cable customers that live in communities where First Step fixed microwave service is available, we are offering to install and move your service from Cable Internet to Microwave Internet at no charge to you. The monthly rates that you are paying for service will not go up as a result of this change and in some cases customers will see their monthly service charges drop.
